Brooklyn Village Phase I Redevelopment Update
New owners First and Early presented their Phase I plan for the former Brooklyn/Walton Plaza site: at least 396 housing units across two buildings, 10% affordable at 80% AMI, 100,000 sq ft of flexible office, a 150-room hotel, and 45,000 sq ft of retail. Commissioners Griffin, Leake, Dunlap, and Powell pressed for stronger legacy preservation, deeper affordability, minority business commitments, and a faster timeline. A formal agreement comes back November 5.
County land acquisitions for parks, housing, and CMS
The board spent $31.78 million on two properties: 15 acres from the school board for parks and housing, and a 6-acre office building for CMS district staff. Each passed with one dissent.
